Neil Fletcher became a member of Hathersage Parish Council in 1984 and was elected Chairman in 1993 following the resignation of Councillor Eric Beeley. He was a very hardworking and diligent Chairman for many years and the Parish Council will be eternally grateful to him for his many hours of research into the minutes of the council from which he produced the book “The First Hundred Years 1894 to 1994”, the proceeds of which went to the village Millennium Fund. As part of one of the Millennium Projects he also wrote an article for “Hathersage Remembers”, in which he recalled the activities of his younger days at Hathersage Swimming Pool, to which he cycled from his home in Grindleford. He met Jennifer Thompson, a local village girl; following their marriage they moved into Barnfields where their two children, Nicola and James, grew up. Jennifer developed multiple sclerosis soon after the birth of James and Neil very lovingly cared for her for many years. He had moved a few years ago to Castleton but will be fondly remembered by many, walking round the village with his sheepdog.
