After many years in the planning and fundraising the Heart of Hathersage (HoH) with it’s new public conveniences is now officially open. Yesterday afternoon a celebratory event took place from 2pm to 4pm with live music and dancing. The crowds turned out on this sunny afternoon to enjoy the entertainment, tea, coffee and cakes. Mrs Chris Winfield spoke about the work that had gone on over the years from the germination of the idea to what we see before us now. Mr Peter Mander (Chair HPC) spoke about the problems that had been faced but overcome, from soon after the old building was demolished and how well the various professions had worked together over the past 12 months.
The Heart of Hathersage is now a community space where tired legs can be rested while sitting on the benches that have been provided and while admiring the planting and view of Stanage Edge high above. The space has room for events to be held, with the authorisation of the Parish Council, and a space has been planned for a Christmas tree with lights or other suitable centre piece at other times of the year.
Other additions to the HoH are being planned, subject to funding, so as well as the planting becoming established over the coming years there will be changes made between your visits that you will see .
The Parish Council are very grateful to all those who have been involved in this project over the years.
Please note that the Parish Council noticeboard on the Parish Rooms (The Vets) is now back in use where agenda for forthcoming meetings and notices will again be posted.
