The Hope Valley Rail Capacity Scheme includes a new footbridge to replace the Hathersage West foot crossing, to improve safety for walkers crossing the line. Network Rail have shared planned work dates below.

Phase 1: Foundation and preparation works

  • Ongoing – Saturday 3 December – rail deliveries (Saturday nights, 11pm-6am).
  • Ongoing – Friday 16 December – excavation work (weekdays, 7am-6pm).
  • Date TBC – Concrete pumping

Phase 2: Installation of the new footbridge

  • Monday 16 January 2023 – Saturday 27 January – preparation works for installation of the footbridge (weekdays, 7am-6pm)
  • 11pm Friday 20 January – 5am Monday 23 January – installation of the footbridge (24-hour working, railway line closed)
  • Saturday 28 January – demobilise site (Saturday night, 11pm-6am).

 

The public footpath at Hathersage West foot crossing will be closed during the works and closure/diversion signage postedsee map, below.

Also, to facilitate works, part of the Hope Valley line will be closed on Saturday 21 January and Sunday 22 January 2023. Alternative travel plans will be provided closer to these dates.

The project team will be working with consideration for the local community in mind but residents may hear some noise from excavation work and train movements with noise from train horns and running engines, and heavy construction machinery.
